Beloved 'somethings' to replace the Sunday scaries
Turning the Sunday scaries into beloved somethings to start the week
Something homegrown
End-of-summer hydrangeas featuring this vase

I know hydrangea season is past its prime as our hydrangeas turned from white to green several weeks ago, but they still manage to look beautiful in their faded green glory. Our front entryway is currently a work-in-progress project that I couldn’t stand to look at any longer so I cleared out boxes that have been sitting there and arranged things I already had like this black textured vase to make a pretty little moment. Having hydrangeas in our front garden during the summer provides a free supply of floral arrangements to pop-up around the house and make any tiny spot feel a little more alive.

Something awfully charming

Emily in Paris debuted its fourth season last week and I invited some girlfriends over for a little watch party/ soiree. It has become a show that may be silly but also features can’t-turn-away fashion, the lovely city of Paris, and characters that are so bizarre it just begs to be watched and commentated through with a group of friends. We didn’t get around to watching it until about 2 hours after everyone arrived since catching up around a food & wine spread took precedent, but Emily did not disappoint. I think that this article by David Mack in Slate perfectly sums up the show –referring to its “beautiful stupidity”, the fact that Emily “appears to have the education of a golden retriever”, and “junk that at least feels decadent and glamorous”... five stars.

Something simple
Leaves in the backyard as a reminder to chill
We had a busy weekend and this Sunday afternoon I was having a hard time coming up with something creative and interesting to do with our two toddlers after their naps. After they each arose from their much-needed slumbers we went outside where I hoped that the outside would inspire me and show me what to do with them like what happens when I go to Target and it shows me what I ‘need’. And it did. There were some yellow leaves in the yard from a prematurely-changing tree, and we made a game out of finding different kinds of leaves to use in different kinds of ‘soups’ in the mud kitchen (a wonderfully-made DIY project by my husband!) It turned into us finding clovers and maple tree helicopters. The kids loved it - it was a wonderful reminder for me that not everything needs to be too thought-out or produced- especially with little ones who discover so much in the simplest things.
